WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR BDC seeks a highly motivated, detail‑oriented professional to join our finance team as Controller. The role involves high‑level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversight of financial activities across multiple portfolio companies. It also supports our Early‑Stage Partners in developing internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage all accounting functions: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable & receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and special analyses. Maintain documented accounting policies and procedures. Ensure accurate, timely financial analysis and reporting. Prepare and audit schedules for monthly, quarterly, and annual close; participate in budget vs. actual reviews and investigate variances. Advise on financial analyses and decision‑making regarding capital investments, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management and the CFO. Define, benchmark, and implement operational best practices. Comply with all local, state, and federal laws related to finances, tax filings, and reporting. Produce complete financial statements (balance sheet, profit & loss, cash flow) and monitor cash and funding balances. Execute variance analysis and commentary from prior periods. Implement effective internal controls around documentation, tracking, and reporting of accounting treatments, including GAAP considerations. Evaluate workflow processes and procedures to ensure efficient operations and opportunities for improvement. Lead the external audit process by preparing schedules, locating supporting documents, and responding to inquiries. ABOUT YOU Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field. CPA or MBA preferred. Previous experience as a Controller or senior accounting manager. Excellent computer skills; proficiency with accounting software and experience implementing software systems. Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and GAAP. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting best practices, and regulatory standards. Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations. Attention to detail, and the ability to work well with senior executives, providing mentorship and leadership to team members.
