BDC is looking for a skilled, highly motivated, detail‑oriented professional to join our growing team as Controller. As a key member, you will handle high‑level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee financial activities within multiple portfolio companies. You will support early‑stage partners and assist with developing internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed. The candidate will have a strong operational background managing the accounting function for technology‑based operating companies and experience working with professional investors (VC/PE). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage all aspects of accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition. Maintain documented system of accounting policies and operations. Ensure accurate, timely analysis and reporting of financial information. Prepare and audit schedules related to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close processes; participate in monthly budget vs. actual meetings and investigate variances. Advise on financial analyses and decision‑making regarding capital investments and significant costs. Define, benchmark, and implement operational best practices. Comply with all local, state, and federal financial laws and tax filings. Produce a complete set of financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow) and monitor cash and funding balances. Execute variance analysis and commentary from prior periods. Monitor and enforce effective internal controls around documentation, tracking, accounting, and reporting, including GAAP considerations. Evaluate workflow processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient operations and opportunities for improvement. Lead the external audit process by preparing schedules locating supporting documents, and responding to inquiries. ABOUT YOU Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field. CPA or MBA preferred. Previous experience as a Controller or senior manager. Excellent computer skills; proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation. Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and GAAP. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations. Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations. Attention to detail. Able to work well with senior executives and mentor/lead other team members.
