Position summary

The client partner is actively seeking a qualified, motivated, self-driven professional with extensive experience in communication and external engagement. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the individual will lead the organization's external engagements with donors, governments, media, and other relevant stakeholders, including grassroots organizations. The role includes disseminating and showcasing the organization's work and supporting the establishment of a credible brand on Gender Equality. The Head will ensure the implementation of the organization's communications strategy, build and manage the communications team and vendors, and provide technical support on campaigns, online and in-person events, resource mobilization, and donor relations. Additionally, the Head will manage public content, including the development of publications, policy briefs, concise summaries, high-quality press releases, research briefs, speeches, and social media posts to support the Executive Director and Leadership Team.

The Head will build portfolio briefs in collaboration with the Director (Research and Policy), Director (Partnership and Outreach), and the Implementation Action Team. They will ensure that public events are well-managed and that outcomes are effectively captured in the organization's work. Timely reporting on the impact of communications work to external stakeholders is also a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

- The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to independently create briefs and collaterals for external communications.

- The candidate should articulate and present ongoing and past work of the organization, including evidence creation, policy engagement, and implementation action.

- The individual should stay informed about the external communication landscape of other organizations and influencers in women's economic empowerment and gender equality, providing clear insights to the Leadership Team.

- The person should synthesize, develop, and communicate the work and concepts to external audiences and stakeholders through targeted online and offline content.

- The person should build relationships with media and consultancy agencies to develop and disseminate communication materials in English, Hindi, and select regional languages.

- The person should maintain and update the organization's website, branding guidelines, and other external-facing materials in coordination with the central communications team.

- The candidate should manage social media content and flagship publications such as newsletters and annual series, maintaining a calendar of events for the year.

- The candidate should keep an updated roster of partners and stakeholders for ongoing communication through newsletters and other consultations and events. They should ensure the organization is well represented in major gender-related events in India and internationally.

- The candidate will be responsible for recruiting, managing, and mentoring team members as per their Terms of Reference (ToR).

- The person will support other verticals in visibility for events through appropriate channels, assist in producing high-quality publications, and conceptualize content in various formats for high-level events.

- The candidate should effectively work with vendors, including designers and copy editors, guiding them to produce high-quality, visually appealing outputs.

- The candidate should be a leader and a team member, ready to work under tight deadlines and adjust to the varying pace of external stakeholders.

- Any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications and Key Requirements

- Master's degree in Mass Communication with at least 12 years of proven experience. Previous experience in gender equality and women empowerment is an added advantage.

- Solid understanding of gender equality in India and South Asia.

- Experience in video and graphic production, journalism, media relations, or creative writing and editorial management is required. Mixed/diverse experiences are preferred.

- Experience in stakeholder engagement and network building is preferred.

- Self-motivated with a keen interest in research, policy, and implementation action.

- Ability to learn quickly from multiple subject areas and be a team player with excellent managerial and people skills to mentor and motivate other team members.

- Willingness to travel as required, including to remote locations.

- Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work in a team.

- Fluency in verbal and written English and Hindi.
