Position Overview

Role Summary

Proofpoint Engineering is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Manager to assist various teams in achieving their objectives while providing transparency to the leadership team. In this capacity, you will collaborate with exceptional teams – both collectively and individually – to guide the team, facilitate execution, and foster a collaborative atmosphere that is both enjoyable and efficient. You will oversee our complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and design through to deployment. Strong leadership is essential. As a cloud-centric organization, we prioritize frequent product releases. Additionally, we develop appliances, so familiarity with both models is crucial. As a software organization embracing Agile methodologies, we operate at a rapid pace, and you are expected to keep up. While you do not need to grasp every technical detail (our architects handle that), you must possess enough technical acumen to identify potential dependencies, engage with related teams, and communicate effectively. We consistently juggle new features, unique customer demands, and other urgent customer issues. Exceptional organizational skills are imperative – tracking all our activities can be complex. On a personal level, you are enjoyable to collaborate with but can adopt a serious demeanor when necessary. You dislike wasting time yet understand the importance of relaxation. You are approachable and possess a distinctive style that unites teams to create remarkable outcomes.

Daily Responsibilities

Direct and manage the development lifecycle from inception to completion within a technical and Agile framework. Develop the project plan and timeline, identifying project teams, distributing and balancing the workload for each team member, and prioritizing features and issues based on established project themes. Update the team dashboard with summary metrics for each sprint cycle. Foster and maintain open communication and constructive collaboration among key stakeholders from Engineering Management, Product Development, Threat Research, Operations, and Customer Support. Lead and manage projects involving multiple cross-functional, matrixed teams across various locations. Command the respect and trust of your peers, including Engineering and technical leads. Clearly set and communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely manner. Effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, on complex matters related to processes, projects, status updates, and resource allocation. Possess technical proficiency in software development practices and be capable of identifying and managing project dependencies and critical path deliverables. Oversee release/sprint planning and assist in maintaining the backlog. Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and formulate contingency plans. Lead sprint planning, sprint reviews, daily stand-ups, and weekly project synchronization meetings with Product Marketing, Engineering, Customer Support, and Professional Services, as well as bug triage sessions and project planning meetings. Conduct project retrospectives and compile a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

Qualifications

BA or BS Degree in Computer Science or a related field. Over 10 years of experience as a Program Manager in the Software sector, particularly within an Agile-Scrum development framework. Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities. A collaborative team player – our teams will depend on your leadership, and cooperation is essential for success. Capability to work with multiple teams on various projects and switch contexts swiftly. Ability to function as an independent self-starter as well as part of a team. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a steadfast ability to follow through. Capacity to handle high-pressure situations gracefully and tackle them one at a time, escalating when necessary. Adaptability to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving skills. Quick to react and adjust efficiently to project changes and modifications. Demonstrated negotiation and risk management skills to resolve issues and conflicts within the project team. Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating demeanor. Experience in delivering products as cloud services is a plus. Familiarity with the Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence) is advantageous.
