At the World Health Organization (WHO), we are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Public Health Specialist to join our team in the Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health.

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional candidate with a strong background in public health, specifically in tobacco control and prevention. As a Senior Public Health Specialist, you will play a crucial role in leading and coordinating projects related to smoke-free policies in Latin America, working closely with international partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging expertise in tobacco control to provide technical guidance to country offices staff on developing effective smoke-free policies;
  • Collaborating with RF team members to operationalize the Strategy and Plan of Action to Strengthen Tobacco Control in the Region of the Americas 2025-2030;
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders to facilitate coordinated project execution;
  • Researching and analyzing technical areas, including conducting literature reviews and synthesizing findings;
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting on progress towards project goals and objectives;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in social or health science, environmental health, law, or a related field from a recognized university;
  • At least seven years of combined national and international experience in public health, particularly in tobacco control and prevention;
  • Excellent knowledge of English, with working knowledge of Spanish; knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, including Microsoft Office and Enterprise Resource Planning systems;
  • Prior experience working in public health projects at the international level in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound recommendations;
