The British Council is seeking a Teaching Excellence Manager (English Online) to ensure high-quality teaching and learning within its English Online classrooms. This role is ideal for an experienced ELT professional who thrives in a digital environment and is passionate about supporting teachers and enhancing learner experience. Role Purpose The Teaching Excellence Manager will lead initiatives to maintain and improve teaching standards, support a large cohort of online teachers, and contribute to the development of innovative English Online products and services. Key Responsibilities Lead the selection of online teachers and support recruitment processes Provide academic management and performance support to English Online teachers Coordinate flexible and sponsored courses, including syllabus creation and evaluation Conduct regular class observations and monitor teaching quality Ensure compliance with British Council Global Teaching Standards Deliver onboarding and product orientation for newly hired teachers Work closely with Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve academic queries and complaints Contribute to the yearly Teaching Excellence Action Plan and English Online objectives Organise and deliver training sessions for teachers across time zones Act as a role model for best classroom practice and share pedagogical developments Support safeguarding, EDI, and SEND initiatives in line with global policies Collect feedback from teachers and contribute to product development and improvement Liaise with vendors and manage freelance content developers for smaller projects Analyse student and client feedback to improve the online classroom experience Manage a small team of teachers for non-teaching academic activities Substitute teach when required (up to 5–7 hours weekly) Essential Qualifications & Experience Undergraduate degree and TEFL-I/CELTA (or equivalent) TEFL-Q qualification (e.g., DELTA or Trinity Diploma TESOL) Minimum 2 years post-diploma teaching experience (General/Business English and IELTS) Experience in online teaching, teacher training, and remote team management Strong organisational and communication skills Desirable Master’s degree or ELT Management qualification Experience with accessibility in online learning and working with learners with additional needs Language Requirement Proficiency in English (IELTS 8.0 or equivalent in all skills).
