Your Purpose Bitso seeks a proactive and experienced Data Engineering Manager with a hands-on approach to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead and collaborate with multiple product and engineering squads across the organization, driving the delivery of high-quality data solutions.
As the Data Engineering Manager, you will oversee a talented team of engineers, leverage advanced tools, and implement streamlined processes to ensure that squads can effectively define, track, and report their data. You will play a pivotal role in building strong cross-functional relationships with stakeholders from product management, operations, and other teams, enabling you to identify opportunities for data architecture improvements, plan and execute strategies, assess capacity, and address technical needs for a scalable and efficient data platform.
A key responsibility will be to monitor the team's productivity and overall health. You'll lead by example, coaching team members to develop new skills and grow professionally. Success in this role requires a hands-on attitude, a deep sense of empathy for your team and stakeholders, and excellent communication and listening skills. You will need to be creative in overcoming challenges and maximizing your team's potential, ensuring timely delivery of high-impact products, services, and features. In addition, you'll contribute to hiring top global talent, helping to build a world-class multidisciplinary product engineering organization. Ultimately, you will be instrumental in enabling Bitso to continue building, launching, and enhancing technology products that make crypto useful.
Reports To Head of Data Engineering at the Data Science Unit
Who You Are 3+ years experience working in a software or data engineering management or leadership role.Strong understanding of data governance, data quality management, and data security practices.Expertise in defining and implementing data architectures, including ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time data processing systems.Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data engineering tools (Databricks, Spark, Kafka), and SQL/NoSQL databases.Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and align data architecture with business objectives.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Experienced in recruitment and adept at fostering a motivated and committed engineering team.Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, with the capability to manage complex schedules and effectively resolve conflicts.A proactive problem-solver who identifies root causes evaluates optimal solutions, and implements comprehensive improvements to prevent future issues.Goal-driven with a track record of leading teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.Proven leadership skills with hands-on experience in guiding technical teams, adept at both performance management and delivering comprehensive feedback.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.English language proficiency.What You Will Do Drive your team to take ownership of services, ensuring delivery meets the highest quality standards for our customers.Collaborate with your team to define performance metrics, set clear goals, and track progress, ensuring the team consistently delivers exceptional quality.Provide coaching, feedback, foster professional development, and manage the career trajectories for all team members.Ensure team health and performance, mediating interpersonal and technical conflicts within and across teams.Prioritize the work within the team along with the product team to attend to urgent matters to succeed and meet the needs of Bitso's roadmaps.To lead by the Bitso values and empower your team while contributing to the overall mission of Bitso.Recruiting and retaining top talent.Accountable for your team's outcomes and the team members' development.
