All Jobs > ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS The Associate Dean of Student Affairs is responsible for strategically leading and effectively leveraging the staff, budget and resources of the following student services designed to foster student success: 1) Scholarship/Career Services, 2) College Placement Exams, 3) Peer Mentoring, 4) Learning Lab, 5) Orientation, 6) Work Study, 7) Internships and Experiential Learning, 8) Early Support and Excessive Absence programs, and 9) Student Success Center programming. In addition, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs assists the Dean of Student Affairs across the division as needed, including working with Financial Aid, Housing, Activities, and Counseling as needed. The Associate Dean is charged with the responsibility of leading IAIA’s retention efforts and tracking of student success, which will include providing retention data reports to Senior Leadership on a semester basis. The Associate Dean’s oversight of the Student Success Center’s "One-Stop-Shop" focus is to ensure the experience, knowledge, expertise and talent of a dedicated team of higher education professionals are brought together to meet the needs of IAIA students. The Associate Dean supports the vision, mission and core values of IAIA. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS Plan, create and implement the use of effective retention activities to enhance student learning across campus. Analyze, interpret and communicate retention findings to senior leadership. Plan, develop, and lead the delivery of New Student Orientation, ensuring a comprehensive and welcoming experience for incoming students that promotes engagement, provides critical resources, and facilitates a smooth transition to IAIA. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations to identify and secure career and internship opportunities for students. Provide guidance and support throughout the internship process, including coordinating and managing required documentation and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and external partner requirements. Work with Academics to deliver and assess IAIA placement exams. Maintain current knowledge of best practices in nationally recognized retention strategies, as well as Higher Learning Commission accreditation standards, policies and guidelines related to retention and accreditation reports. Complete special projects as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs related to improving retention. Plan, organize and lead the implementation of a campus-wide retention plan. Hire, manage, direct, guide, coach, supervise, motivate and evaluate a diverse Student Success Center staff which includes Student Success Advisors, Career and Internship Coordinator, student work study positions, and Learning Lab positions. Function as a Super User for IAIA’s student information system database. Responsible for federal compliance regarding Veteran Services Enrollment. Participate in the campus committees including chairing Student Success Committee, serving on APPC, Advisory Council, Student Life Committee, and others as needed. Conduct regular staff meetings to inform, direct and motivate staff. Meet on a regular basis with the Dean, senior leadership, faculty and key stakeholders to discuss and resolve matters relating to student success. Maintain membership in professional organizations. Requirements REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION The incumbent must have master’s degree in a related field and at least three years managing, evaluating and developing a student affairs or academic affairs program in a higher education environment, of comparable scope and complexity. The incumbent must also have at least three years of experience in developing and coordinating multiple programs of a high degree of complexity. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrated experience, skill and knowledge in strategically leading and directing multiple student programs at the college level. Demonstrated ability to oversee, control, manage and monitor multiple department budgets. Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and managing a large and complex student support staff. Ability to interact positively with local, regional, national and tribal personnel, agencies and organizations. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels and with all people and groups. Ability to interact and work successfully with faculty, students, parents, alumni and staff as related to job responsibilities. Ability to resolve conflicts in a constructive manner. Ability to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct and ethics, including but not limited to: Confidentiality, integrity, and honesty following senior leadership directives exhibit the ability to adapt to changing work environments cooperate and work respectfully with others and participate in proactive problem solving attend to and meet job duties and participate in key meeting as required. Must have a pleasant, courteous, and professional attitude and presence. Ability to work independently, to begin projects independently (or as assigned), and to complete projects in a timely manner. Must have advanced computer capabilities in Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Understanding and sensitivity to American Indian cultures. WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to read and interpret basic to complex data/information/guidelines/procedures, etc. related to a wide range of student support services, such as student retention, financial aid, academic advising, student accounts, scholarship/career, college placement, ADA/Veteran guidelines, registration, enrollment and accreditation. Ability to interact and communicate (in writing or verbal) effectively with a wide range of audiences and at all organizational levels. Incumbent may be asked by the Dean to perform other duties/projects/assignments, as needed. Occasional out-of-town travel for meetings and conferences using personal vehicle/company vehicle or air transportation may be required. Performance evaluation will be determined based on performance results of job duties as described herein as well as attainment of annual strategic work plan goals.
