We are seeking an experienced and strategic Operational Readiness Manager to lead the planning and execution of operational readiness activities for a greenfield copper mine start-up. Start-up commences with the mining early works fleet and associated mobile equipment, then the principal mining fleet (160Mtpa) and 175ktpd copper concentrate processing facility.

This role is critical in ensuring a seamless transition from project construction and commissioning phases into ramp up and steady-state operations at nameplate production (or better). The successful candidate will lead all coordination activities with the cross-functional Owners team(s) and EPCMs to build systems, processes, and reporting tools, that provide the necessary checks and balances to enable safe, efficient start up and transition to sustainable mining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage a comprehensive operational readiness plan aligned with project milestones.
  • Ensure integration between construction, commissioning, and operations (mining and processing) for smooth commissioning, handover and ramp-up.
  • Work with internal departments (e.g., mining, processing, maintenance, health & safety, HR, procurement), EPCM and external contractors to ensure alignment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the project development team and incoming operations teams.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance strategies, and management systems (e.g., ERP, CMMS, safety systems).
  • Ensure all permits, licenses, and compliance systems are in place for operational readiness.
  • Conduct regular reviews and risk assessments to measure readiness across people, systems, assets, and processes. Identify gaps and lead mitigation plans to resolve them before production ramp-up.
  • Champion a strong safety culture from the pre-operational phase.
  • Ensure that all HS&E systems and training are fully embedded prior to operational go-live.
  • Manage operational readiness activities and personnel in a high-altitude environment.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of mining industry experience, with at least 5 years in operational readiness, commissioning, or early-stage operations.
  • Proven track record in leading readiness for large-scale mining or processing plant start-ups (ideally greenfield).
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, asset management, safety systems, and workforce development.
  • Proven experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Pronto, or Oracle.
  • Understanding of mining safety and compliance standards (MSHA, WHS, ISO, etc.).
  • Excellent project management, organisational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working at high altitude, remote and/or developing regions is an asset.
  • Knowledge of copper mining processes and equipment is highly desirable.
