Position Overview

Nebulon Dynamics is seeking a seasoned Director of Engineering to drive our engineering vision and guide our teams towards strategic innovation and operational excellence. This is a leadership role focused on overseeing our engineering teams, managing budgets, and developing effective strategies that align with our company's growth objectives. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, hands-on leadership, and forward-thinking strategy to support Nebulon's mission.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
2. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of engineering talent, ensuring the teams' skills align with Nebulon's goals and future projects.
3. Provide technical guidance and career development support, creating a growth-oriented environment where engineers can thrive.
4. Performance & Systems Management:

1. Monitor and enhance the performance and reliability of all internal systems, ensuring scalability, security, and optimal functionality.
2. Set clear goals and KPIs for engineering teams, continuously evaluating team performance to ensure alignment with business objectives.
3. Implement best practices and modern engineering methods to improve productivity, code quality, and operational efficiency.

6. Strategic Planning & Project Oversight:

1. Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Manufacturing to establish long-term engineering and operational goals.
2. Plan and oversee current and future software development projects, managing objectives, timelines, and resource allocations.
3. Develop strategies for integrating innovative technologies that enhance Nebulon's offerings and competitive edge in the industry.

8. Budget & Resource Management:

1. Manage the engineering department's budget, including forecasting, allocation, and cost management to support both immediate needs and future growth.
2. Evaluate manpower requirements, ensuring resources are optimally utilized and aligned with Nebulon's goals.
3. Find and implement ways to improve cost-efficiency without compromising quality or team performance.

10. Compliance & Risk Management:

1. Ensure engineering practices and product development comply with relevant industry standards, security laws, and regulations.
2. Govern policies for internal systems and equipment usage, keeping risk management and data protection at the forefront.
3. Establish protocols for quality control, risk assessment, and incident response to maintain robust and compliant systems.

12. External Collaboration & Technology Integration:

1. Work closely with external stakeholders and partners on the adoption and integration of new tools, platforms, and technologies.
2. Act as the main liaison with third-party vendors, assessing and negotiating terms to support Nebulon's strategic initiatives.
3. Represent Nebulon's engineering vision and capabilities in client and partner discussions, promoting collaboration on shared goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

1. Education & Experience:

1. Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in engineering management, with a proven record of leading high-performing teams in a remote or distributed environment.
3. Strong understanding of cloud technologies, software architecture, and hands-on experience in both back-end and front-end development.

3. Technical Expertise:

1. Comprehensive knowledge of cloud platforms, application development, and system architecture.
2. Familiarity with modern development frameworks, security practices, and DevOps principles.
3. Strong managerial skills with experience setting clear objectives, coaching teams, and driving accountability.
4. Strategic mindset, with the ability to anticipate industry trends and steer Nebulon's engineering vision accordingly.
5. Excellent project management skills, with experience overseeing complex projects from concept through execution.
6. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and external partners.
7. Collaborative approach, fostering strong cross-functional relationships with teams across Nebulon Dynamics.
