Linux devices software engineer - snapd Canonical, a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, is hiring a Linux devices software engineer for our SnapD team. This role focuses on mission‑critical Golang code, software delivery, containers, security sandboxing, telemetry, and device management. Responsibilities Collaborate proactively with a distributed team across multiple regions Write high‑quality code to create new features and debug Linux system‑level issues Review code produced by other engineers and discuss ideas to find optimal solutions Obses over robustness, especially in unexpected events like power outages Work remotely with global travel up to two weeks, twice a year Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C, or C++ Strong knowledge of Linux system‑level fundamentals (cgroups, namespaces, apparmor) Commitment to software testing, code reviews, and maintainable code Passion for open source software development and an obsession with quality and performance Nice to have: Previous experience with Golang, experience with container technology and device management Benefits Base pay plus performance‑driven annual bonus or commission Annual compensation review and base pay adjustments annually Recognition rewards and holiday leave Maternity and paternity leave and team member assistance program Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year Opportunity to travel to new locations and remote work environment About Canonical Canonical is a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of the global move to open source.
