**Data Governance Internship: Job description**

We are seeking a motivated Data Governance Intern to join our team within the insurance industry and support data management initiatives that ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across the organization. The intern will assist in implementing data governance frameworks, analyzing data quality issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve data management processes.

This internship provides hands-on experience in data governance, exposure to industry best practices, and opportunities to work with enterprise data management tools.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies, procedures and standards to ensure data quality, security and compliance.
- Support data stewardship initiatives, including data cataloging, metadata management, and data lineage tracking.
- Support AI/ML Inventory and risk assessment initiative.
- Collaborate with data owners, analysts’ teams to identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Conduct data profiling and analysis to assess data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Document business definitions, data dictionaries, and data governance workflows.
- Assist in the implementation and use of data governance tools and platforms.
- Support compliance efforts related to data privacy regulations.
- Participate in data management meetings, provide insights, and contribute to strategy discussions.
- Research industry trends and best practices in data governance and make recommendations for improvements.

**Basic Qualifications**:

- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with data governance concepts, data quality, and metadata management.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and database management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization with Power BI

Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks.
- Understanding of business processes and how data governance supports business goals.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview)
- Prior experience with data quality assessment or data stewardship projects.
- Certifications related to data governance (e.g., DAMA)
