Objective of job
As China is the largest and fastest growing market for passenger cars, we are currently looking for an experienced expert who shares the same passion and enthusiasm for leading our China specific user interface software development. Located in Beijing (Wangjing area), our user interface software development team is fully responsible for leading the development of the Chinese specific user interface module, with a special focus on China specific features, connected services, and location-based service domains that aims to provide best-in-class user interaction to Chinese customers.
As the manager of the user interface software development team, you are responsible for managing the software development team, ensuring in-time and in-quality software deliveries based on state-of-the-art software architectures of our internal and external partners as well as our own software developers.
Based on the business needs, you will support the senior manager in team recruitment and will prepare and participate in the performance evaluations to ensure the team member’s development.
You are an advocate for continuous improvement and an enabler who ensures the team outperforms at a high level of autonomy. Task description
Main tasks
General
1. Leading a team of engineers responsible for the software development of the China specific user interface module and all related development, ensuring the best product for our customers. Facilitate the agile and lean mindset, develop people.
2. Owner of the software strategy for user interface software in China considering onboard and offboard development. Hosting the processes for software development and architecture decisions and aligning with relevant stakeholders outside the team (e.g. UISW responsible and architect in HQ, project managers China). Responsible for ensuring continuous, state-of-the-art software development and delivering high quality software releases.
3. Responsible for project management (especially considering time, scope, quality, resource, and qualification management) for all development activities to provide a full picture to the team and stakeholders and to keep track of the planned deliveries for multiple parallel running projects.
4. Align with different mother projects and handle deviations accordingly by defining countermeasures. Provide transparency about the progress and status of all development areas to key stakeholders.
Task Management
1. Monitoring status and progress of work and making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the Supervisor as needed.
2. Estimating and reporting on expected time of work completion and maintaining work records.
3. Distributing and balancing workload among employees and assuring timely accomplishment and quality of work.
People Supervision & Team Development
1. Assisting Supervisor with daily people supervision tasks including but not limited to recruitment, attendance & leave management, and LEAD Goal Agreement, Appraisal, and Feedback process.
2. Providing necessary performance coaching and feedback to team members.
3. Reporting to Supervisor on performance, progression, training needs of team members, and on disciplinary issues.
4. Assisting Supervisor on Section Team Employee Survey follow-ups and team building topics.
Stakeholder Management
1. Ensure effective communication is in place and impediments are resolved. Drive flow of information, learning, and continuous improvement.
2. Manage dependencies, facilitate & support process improvements, and enable transparency/information accessibility among stakeholders.
Training and Coaching to Team Members
1. Instructing team members in tasks and job techniques and making available written instructions and reference materials.
2. Giving on-the-job training to new team members.
3. Improving team know-how, answering questions of team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc.
Qualifications
Qualification
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, SW Engineering, Computer Science or appropriate graduation).
2. At least 5+ years of experience as a software developer, preferably in the field of infotainment system development.
3. Experienced leader of cross-functional teams and organizational setups.
4. Experience in leading complex software development projects with multiple stakeholders.
5. Good knowledge of C++, QT, QML, Java/Kotlin is a plus.
6. Relevant Linux / Android knowledge and experience.
7. Experience with in-car telematics applications, especially for the China market is a plus (e.g., infotainment or connected applications, navigation, and location-based service domains).
8. Experience working in an Agile development environment; Agile/Scrum methodology, experience as scrum master or product owner is a plus.
9. Experience with Git, Jira, and Confluence.
10. Software development quality methodologies such as design review, code reviews, continuous integration, regression testing, and static code analysis.
11. Fundamental knowledge of project management methodologies, e.g., project plan, risk analysis, and so on.
12. Self-responsibility and good communication skills.
13. Fluency in Chinese & English.
