Job Summary

This position is contingent upon the award of a contract.

The National Medical Director will work under the direction of the National Program Director and collaborate with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The National Medical Director will develop, implement, and evaluate the medical practice delivery model in accordance with policies and protocols listed in the Statement of Work (SOW) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directives for the delivery of healthcare services to persons in custody.

The National Medical Director shares administrative functions that directly impact medical services and collaborates with the management team in overall planning and execution of program directives.

  • Serves as the medical authority for the medical services contract and all medical units for U.S. Customs and Border Protection sites.
  • Demonstrates a caring attitude when interacting with patients, vendors, and fellow employees.
  • Provides medical direction and necessary guidance/oversight for all medical services, including mental health and pediatric care.

The National Medical Director will be responsible for developing and coordinating all aspects of healthcare delivery in collaboration with the National Program Director and OCMO.

The National Medical Director will serve as a contractor to the federal government and does not have any federal authority or rights.
The National Medical Director will maintain confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
The National Medical Director will ensure compliance with DHS and CBP policies and any overriding federal standards/policies, or accreditation standards that may apply.
The National Medical Director will oversee laboratory services and has awareness and ability to perform quality control of laboratory reagents and perform CLIA waived testing as needed.
The National Medical Director will complete all annual training or additional training as directed.
The National Medical Director will travel to each assigned medical unit quarterly and be able to work at an assigned medical unit daily to provide oversight as required.
The National Medical Director will assist with patient care in time of staff shortage or surge.
The National Medical Director will serve at or provide patient care at alternate medical units within assigned sector/region on an as needed basis as required.
The National Medical Director will be available telephonically and/or to report to the medical unit during non-core hours.
The National Medical Director will respond to a medical emergency and perform BLS/CPR as needed.
The National Medical Director will read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
The National Medical Director will be able to obtain and maintain the U.S. Government security clearance.
