Mechanical Engineering Lead

MMI Engineering Lead In Canada and Argentina, within the Shales project organization, the MMI Engineering Lead is responsible for supporting the various concurrent green‑field and brown‑field project activities across the Mechanical and Quality disciplines. The role focuses primarily on material selection, corrosion, pressure piping, static equipment such as tanks, vessels, and pipelines, and provides operations support for these assets. Responsibilities Provide safe, pragmatic technical guidance and assurance to projects. Actively support multi‑discipline scope deliveries within the project delivery team and front‑end project development. Lead technical and lean scoping activities and provide TA2 assurance to the Engineering Contractor organization to ensure engineering is fit‑for‑purpose, compliant with Shell standards, and meets Shales portfolio requirement specification (PRS) requirements. Participate in factory inspections, field inspections, design reviews, MOCs, and equipment verification in contractor shops. Assist with plant changes, maintenance advice, and on‑demand incident investigations to capture lessons learned for optimizing project delivery scopes. Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Project & Facility Engineers, Process Engineers, and other discipline engineers to ensure all aspects of scope are covered. Support operations for Canadian (Alberta Light Tight Oil (ABLTO), Groundbirch (GB)) and Argentine assets, contributing to cost‑efficient capital project execution, reliability, and margin sustainability. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or an equivalent field. Professional Engineering registration (e.g., APEGA, Texas P.E.) is preferred. Minimum Technical Authority Level - Mechanical TA2 with substantial experience delivering mechanical scope through DCAF. 15+ years in the Oil & Gas industry with at least 5 years in project phases (FEED, detailed engineering, and execution); majority experience in Upstream business. Exposure to Shales PRS, design philosophies, and project execution is highly preferred. Knowledge/skill level competence on rotating equipment engineering is an added advantage. Experience with CAPEX cost estimating processes is preferred. Good listening, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; strong teamwork abilities in a multi‑cultural environment. Demonstrated ability to manage engineering contractor counterparts in a cost‑reimbursable contracting environment, ensuring accountability for discipline‑specific requirements and meeting project safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets. Knowledge of HSE regulations, national and international standards (ASME, CSA), and quality processes. Ability to cope under pressure and deliver within agreed deadlines; strong written and verbal communication skills. Maintains good work relationships and champions change while overcoming resistance. Deliver within defined scope, timing, and budget, and adapt to constantly changing priorities (MOCs, projects, new initiatives). Knowledge of working with a Lean approach and good ability to weigh cost versus benefit in a risk‑based design approach to preserve competitive scope.
