Position Overview We’re seeking a hands‑on Controller to serve as the financial backbone of Modernize LLC — owning all aspects of accounting, reporting, and financial operations from end to end. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both rolling up their sleeves and building scalable financial processes for a growing business. You’ll manage everything from bookkeeping, invoicing, and payroll to producing accurate financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and leadership reports. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Reporting: manage all daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, and general ledger; prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets, P&L, and cash flow statements; lead month‑end and year‑end close processes; reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor payments; track contractor and client transactions across the U.S. and LATAM. Billing & Cash Flow Management: oversee invoicing, collections, and payment processing; manage contractor/vendor payments accurately and on time; monitor daily cash flow; build forecasts and advise leadership on liquidity; implement cost tracking, margin reporting, and profitability analysis by project or client. Payroll & Operations: coordinate payroll, benefits, and expense reimbursements with HR and Ops; ensure compliance with multi‑state and international payment requirements (U.S. + LATAM); maintain accurate records for tax and audit readiness. Systems & Process Improvement: maintain and enhance financial systems (QuickBooks Online, Expensify, Bill.com, etc.); streamline workflows for invoicing, approvals, and expense tracking; build dashboards for visibility into revenue, margins, and utilization; establish internal controls for a high‑growth startup. Tax, Compliance & Audit: coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and compliance; ensure adherence to GAAP and regulatory requirements; maintain documentation for audits, investor reviews, and financing events. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ in a controller/senior accounting role; proficiency in QuickBooks Online (or similar), Excel, and financial reporting; solid understanding of GAAP, cash flow, and revenue recognition; experience managing AP/AR, payroll, and billing in a small business or startup. Preferred: CPA or CMA certification (or in progress); experience in professional services or consulting environments; familiarity with international payments and multi‑currency accounting; experience implementing accounting systems or scaling finance operations.
