Senior Backend Engineer Join Span to apply for the Senior Backend Engineer role. This role focuses on developing robust backend systems and data pipelines that support Span’s mission of providing coherent software engineering context. Base pay range $100,000 – $250,000 per year. The hours tied up in tagging, status reporting, and coordination meetings are automated away so people spend less time on busywork and more time on real work. In this role you’ll Develop a connector for a new integration, such as BitBucket or Shortcut. Design and implement a unified data model for a new category of data relevant to the Software Engineering Intelligence space (e.g., incident management or monitoring systems). Convert data pipelines to incremental workloads to improve performance, and build an event‑based data processing framework that scales. Create an AI Agent workflow backend that provides tools for LLMs to query a knowledge graph, producing reports and insights for our customers. What we’re looking for Experience building scalable backend or data‑lean products that solve bottlenecks and enable front‑end engineers to deliver delightful UI experiences. Proficiency with data pipelines, ETL processes, data modeling, and optimization techniques. Hands‑on experience launching projects in a cloud environment, ensuring uptime and staying within budget constraints. Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) and knowledge of prompt engineering in personal or professional projects. Passion for technology, innovation, and learning demonstrated through past work.
