Lead, Software Engineer (Fullstack) Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology – The role’s mission is to build and support high‑quality playback and QC systems across platforms, working with operators, quality‑control teams, and cross‑functional product and engineering groups. Responsibilities Implement new developmental features on our purposely built player to support the evolved audio/video QC ecosystem. Maintain the QC player stack used daily by the operator team. Collaborate on API design with back‑end and front‑end teams that depend on our libraries. Unblock issues that prevent testing and release of VOD content to customers. Identify, research, and address issues by maintaining a deep understanding of our code base. Partner with application development, services engineering, and product management to explain device limitations and requirements. Lead initiatives to ensure the quality and stability of deployments, including testing strategies and telemetry approaches. Develop and maintain the project’s build system and continuous integration pipelines. Provide technical expertise and mentoring to developers on the team. Hold the team accountable to high development standards and provide on‑call rotational support as needed. Qualifications 5+ years building production‑grade playback systems across platforms. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Advanced level English proficiency. Experience with subtitle formats (WebVTT, TTML) and rendering pipelines. Proficiency in Swift/AVFoundation, FairPlay integration, Kotlin/Java, ExoPlayer, Widevine DRM, BrightScript, SceneGraph, Roku SDK best practices. Understanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await) and threading/concurrency. Knowledge of source control, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Jenkins, Docker. Experience with messaging technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, SQS). (Partial matches acceptable) Desire to work in a fast‑growth, rapid‑change environment and strong problem‑solving skills. Experience integrating media players into web applications, web accessibility fundamentals, and streaming technologies (DRM, adaptive bitrate, caption/subtitle codecs, etc.).
