Learn more: In this role, as a Data Engineer Backend Developer, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications and services that support large-scale data pipelines and analytics platforms. Your focus will be on building Java-based solutions for data ingestion, transformation, and reporting, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability. You will collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, and cross-functional teams to optimize data flows, enhance processing frameworks, and support business decision-making through robust backend systems. What To Expect In This Role (Responsibilities) Lead the design, development, and delivery of backend applications in Java to support data engineering and reporting use cases. Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle, ensuring code is efficient, testable, and maintainable. Collaborate with Data Engineers to optimize queries, improve ETL/ELT processes, and enhance data quality. Drive continuous improvement by proposing architectural enhancements and adopting new tools/technologies. Ensure solutions meet best practices for performance, scalability, and reliability in data-intensive environments. Requirements +5 years of professional experience, with strong expertise in Java development for data-intensive applications. Proven experience integrating Java applications with data platforms (ETL/ELT, data lakes, data warehouses). Solid knowledge of SQL and DBMS, including data modeling (Star schema, Snowflake). Familiarity with Python or Golang for complementary data processing tasks. Experience developing REST APIs to expose and manage data services. Exposure to distributed data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Presto, etc.). Proficiency in AWS environments (S3, Redshift, RDS, Athena, Glue, CloudWatch, EMR, Lambda). Experience with Git or similar version control tools. Nice to Have Experience with Agile/Kanban methodology (JIRA). Knowledge of Unix/Linux environments. Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, DataStudio). Understanding of file formats (Avro, JSON, Parquet, CSV). Knowledge of GCP and/or Streaming technologies. Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Mage).
