Location: Remote (Latin America or Mexico; US Eastern (EST) business hours required)

About the Engagement:

We are building out the delivery team for a long-term data engineering engagement centered on large data volumes and data migrations . We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own the design and delivery of Java and Python systems on AWS , working alongside the client's engineers and holding a high bar on code quality and review. We expect disciplined use of AI coding tools: you design first, test in a structured way, and verify every output. Our selection process is rigorous. It includes a recorded video screen followed by several technical conversations with senior engineers.

What You'll Deliver:

• Production Java services and Python data pipelines that handle large data volumes reliably
• Data migrations from plan to cutover: scoping, validation, and rollback
• Streaming and batch workflows on AWS (S3, Kinesis, DynamoDB) and Kafka
• High-quality code reviews that improve design, not just style
• AI-assisted development done with discipline: design first, structured testing, line-by-line review of AI output, and cross-checking between tools
• Work driven by clear acceptance criteria, with tests written first or alongside the code (TDD / BDD )
• Clear written and spoken explanations of technical trade-offs to the team

Must-Have Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional software or data engineering experience, shipping and supporting production systems
• Hands-on Java experience in production (required)
• Strong Python skills with Pandas and related data libraries
• Hands-on AWS experience using boto3 , including S3 and at least one of Kinesis or DynamoDB
• Experience with a streaming platform such as Kafka (or Kinesis) in a production setting
• Solid SQL and working knowledge of JSON and Parquet data formats
• Experience with large data volumes or data migrations , and the ability to explain the design trade-offs
• A real code review habit: you review carefully and can show examples
• Disciplined use of AI coding tools : you verify, test, and cross-check AI output rather than accepting it by default
• Working experience with TDD / BDD and writing code against acceptance criteria
• Excellent spoken and written English ; you will be interviewed by several senior engineers
• Based in Latin America or Mexico and available during US Eastern (EST) business hours (mandatory)

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Apache Flink or other stream-processing and OLAP tools
• Experience with StarRocks
• Experience building, monitoring, and fixing AI agents to get the behavior you want
• Experience working in a distributed team with US hours overlap
• Familiarity with Jira or Rally in an agile team
