Credentialed Shipboard Welder Overview EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER / VETERANS / DISABLED. This position requires candidates to have an Ordinary Seaman Merchant Mariner Credential with a current US Coast Guard medical certificate. Non‑supervisory certificated USCG welder performs welding, brazing, cutting, fabrication and metal working as directed by the ship captain. Responsibilities Repair existing metal structures or fabricate new ones as necessary on ship hull, piping, pumps, winches, motors, shafts, weirs and metal superstructures. Read simple plans, schematics or blueprints and use measurement tools such as squares, levels, tapes, electronic gauges and other tools to fabricate or repair with precision. Work with various gas or electrical equipment and weld materials including steel, aluminum and other metals. Perform designated security duties as part of deck crew. Work 28 days on with 2 paid travel days and 26 days off. Qualifications Ordinary Seaman MMC with currentCG medical certificate and security awareness training. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from manager and internal team. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Regular and predictable physical presence on the ship is essential; must be able to travel for 28‑day tours with 2 paid travel days. Physical presence: lift or move up to 50 pounds; close vision and color vision required; stand for long periods; climb pilot ladder for crew change purposes.
