About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga

Our Patient Services Department is seeking an experienced and motivated Phlebotomist to join the team in a permanent, part-time role. This position is 40 hours per fortnight and would suit someone with experience in Phlebotomy. Specifically based in the Nelson Hospital, undertaking the morning ward round collection of blood samples.

This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys working with people and delivering high-quality inpatient care. You will be required to liaise with nursing staff, work independently as well as hold good communication skills to ensure ward rounds are carried out efficiently and professionally. This role is working 07:00AM to 11:00AM Monday to Friday.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • A positive and friendly approach to your work.
  • Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.
  • Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.
  • Respect for always ensuring patient confidentiality and in all matters.
  • Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential.
  • Hold or work towards registration with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand and hold an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician.
  • A clean New Zealand Driver's Licence.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
