Lead Test Automation Engineer

We are looking for a Backend Automation Lead to oversee and drive all backend QA automation initiatives on a project. This individual will lead strategic improvements, ensure scalability, and mentor team members while collaborating closely with engineering and product teams.

The candidate will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help building a comprehensive automated testing. This person will partner with the Functional Areas and IT to ensure testing goals, objectives, and expectations are effectively met across the organization.

Lead Backend Automation Projects

• Drive automation efforts across key backend services:

  • UACAPI – GraphQL

  • OMS – GraphQL

  • OIS – GraphQL

  • KMP Layer (supporting Shop App) – Kotlin.

• Architect and optimize backend automation frameworks.

• Analyze current automation structure, identify gaps, and propose improvements.

• Expand test coverage across backend systems and APIs.

Strategic Improvements

• Lead initiatives to improve automation efficiency and reduce operational costs.

• Explore opportunities for end-to-end testing that integrates frontend and backend systems.

• Work autonomously, taking full ownership of tasks from concept to completion.

• Provide innovative ideas and solutions in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Team Leadership

• Oversee a team of 3–4 contractors working on backend automation projects.

• Offer technical guidance, mentorship, and conduct code reviews.

• Act as a test lead across various work streams, working closely with Product Managers and Developers.

• Mentor other Engineers on testing methodologies, automation practices, coding standards, and test planning.

Collaboration & Reporting

• Work closely with QA leadership, Engineering, and DevOps teams to align automation strategies.

• Communicate progress, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.

• Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to ensure technical alignment.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.

• Languages & Frameworks: Java, GraphQL, Kotlin.

• Strong proficiency in HTTP requests and API testing.

• Solid experience with GraphQL query/mutation testing.

• Strong understanding of OO programming and design principles.

• Good grasp of networking fundamentals.

• Excellent knowledge of software QA best practices.

• Hands-on experience with Postman, and proxy tools such as Charles or Proxyman.

• Strong communication and leadership skills.

• Ability to influence stakeholders and drive change across teams.

• Proactive mindset and ability to work effectively in a fast-changing environment.

Nice to have

• TypeScript experience for cross-functional collaboration.

• Familiarity with CI/CD tools for automation pipeline integration.

• Experience with GitHub Actions, Bitbucket.

• Awareness of backend performance testing approaches and ability to integrate them into automation strategy.

• Understanding of secure API testing practices and data handling.

• Exposure to AI-driven test generation, automation, or analysis tools.
