Director, Software Engineering

• Leadership & Execution
• Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team through the full SDLC — from epic definition and functional specs to final delivery and support.
• Work closely with product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineering leaders to define priorities, clarify scope, and set direction.
• Drive engineering execution, ensuring architectural integrity, code quality, and timely delivery of complex, distributed systems.
• Technical Oversight
• Provide architectural and design guidance for systems that span field-deployed embedded software, IoT device management, and cloud-based SaaS platforms.
• Ensure best practices around scalability, fault tolerance, reliability, and observability across all software layers.
• Champion Agile engineering rigor, including sprint planning, story estimation, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps culture.
• People & Organization
• Hire, coach, and develop engineering managers and technical leads within your group.
• Foster a high-performance, accountable, inclusive, and collaborative engineering culture.
• Set clear goals, track performance, and mentor technical and managerial talent.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Act as a key interface between engineering, product, customer support, and field operations teams.
• Participate in customer and field-facing discussions when needed to troubleshoot or validate platform performance and resilience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading engineering teams at the senior manager or director level.
• Proven success managing teams of 30+ engineers, ideally across multiple products or functional areas.
• Strong background in large-scale, distributed systems — especially IoT, embedded software, or cloud-based platforms.
• Deep experience with Agile methodologies, including use of epics, story writing, team rituals, and planning frameworks.
• Familiarity with software for hardware-integrated systems (e.g., real-time control, device firmware, sensor networks).
• Demonstrated excellence in people leadership, technical judgment, and organizational scaling.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.

Nice to Have

• Experience in fuel, EV, retail tech, or industrial IoT domains.
• Familiarity with payment regulatory standards, device certification, and PCI compliance.
• Hands-on knowledge of observability platforms, asset tracking, or incident response systems.
• Experience working in high-uptime environments with field service logistics and remote diagnostics.
