MUBA is building an
evidence-first fraud & transparency platform
for health insurers in LATAM: point-of-service identity & presence proofing, temporal-graph + causal analytics on claims, and auditor-grade evidence packs that turn pilots into measurable savings. We're a small founding team (product, data, delivery) with pilot momentum. As Lead Software Engineer you'll be the technical heart of the company — shipping product, owning the platform and mentoring the first engineers.

Why this role matters

At pre-seed stage you will convert prototypes into production-grade systems that auditors and payers trust. You'll shape architecture, reliability, security and engineering culture — and directly affect product adoption, revenue from pilots and investor traction.

What you'll own

• Architect, build and operate the core platform (API, data ingestion, pipelines, storage, authentication, audit trail).
• Productionize ML/Data prototypes (temporal graph analytics, causal scoring) together with data scientists.
• Implement secure IDV integration flows (SDKs/APIs), signed audit events and evidence packaging.
• Lead devops: CI/CD, infra-as-code, container strategy, monitoring, backups, recovery.
• Set security & compliance baseline (encryption, RBAC, logging, SOC2/HIPAA/GDPR/LGPD readiness practices).
• Design APIs and integration patterns for payer systems (SFTP, HL7/FHIR connectors, CSV/API ingest).
• Own engineering delivery: plan sprints, write PRDs with Product, estimate effort and ship.
• Hire, onboard and mentor the first engineers/contractors.
• Be hands-on: you will code, review and deploy day-to-day.

Must-have

• 5+ years backend engineering experience; at least 2+ years leading/mentoring engineers or technical teams.
• Strong production backend skills in Python (or similar) and proven experience building APIs (FastAPI/Flask/Node).
• Solid experience with data pipelines & ETL (batch + streaming), familiarity with Kafka or equivalent.
• Experience deploying and operating services on cloud (AWS/GCP) using containers (Docker) and orchestration (K8s or managed alternatives).
• Experience with relational DBs (Postgres), data warehouses (BigQuery / Snowflake) or graph DBs (Neo4j/TigerGraph) — or demonstrated ability to pick them up fast.
• Practical knowledge of deploying ML models to production (model serving, monitoring, MLflow or similar).
• Security & privacy mindset: logging/audit trails, encryption, RBAC, GDPR/LGPD/HIPAA awareness.
• Excellent problem solving, ownership and ability to translate product needs into robust technical design.
• Fluent English; Spanish native or advanced preferred.

Nice-to-have

• Prior experience in healthcare, insurance, payments, or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with FHIR/HL7 and healthcare integration patterns.
• Experience with graph ML, PyTorch or DGL/PyG.
• Experience negotiating integrations with external vendors (IDV, auditors).
• Observability / SRE experience (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK).
• Startup experience (early stage, shipped from zero to production).

Compensation (updated)

• Base salary:
  competitive and negotiable depending on experience and market.
• Success fee / performance bonus:
  structure agreed at hiring, paid on delivery of clear milestones (examples: production Go-Live of core module; successful pilot converted to paid contract; uptime/security benchmark achieved). Exact milestones and amounts will be defined in the offer and contract.

Responsibilities (day-to-day)

• ~60% coding & architecture (core platform, ingestion, integrations).
• ~20% cross-team work with Product & Data (productionizing models & audit packs).
• ~10% DevOps / Security ops and automation.
• ~10% hiring, mentoring, documentation and process building.
