**How You Will Contribute**:
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Caribbean & Latin America (CALA), as a Contracts Professional, you will be part of a high-performing, customer-focused group of legal professionals providing negotiation and transactional support to our customers in Ciena’s CALA region, including Mexico.
- You will draft, review and negotiate a broad range of agreements, ranging from complex technology agreements, various forms of software licenses, hardware, support and maintenance, professional services contracts, and non-disclosure agreements, advising on liabilities, legal restrictions and risks associated with such agreements, including customer templates and forms.
- You will partner with the business, Ciena Sales, Commercial Management, Finance and Operations teams to provide advice on legal, financial and commercial issues related to a broad range of commercial transactions.
- You will participate in projects and activities that require a legal view on corporate, tax, compliance and data privacy, attend to audits and monitor industry trends.
- You will participate in special and continuous improvement initiatives in the negotiation & contracting area, helping to improve contracting efficiencies, processes and agreements that scale globally.
- You will act as a fiduciary for the company driving compliance in day-to-day sales activities, including providing counseling to sales professionals and coordinating with other groups within Ciena on compliance matters.

**The Must Haves**:
- Law degree coupled with 2 years + proven experience in reviewing, drafting, managing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts, with a strong emphasis on software licensing agreements, hardware agreements and professional services/project implementation agreements (including negotiating from the customer’s form agreement, if approved).
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
- Solid understanding of legal concepts and contractual terms.
**Assets**:
- Fluency in Portuguese.
- Experience in negotiating project implementation agreements.
