**SUMMARY**:
The Policy Specialist for The Nature Conservancy Gran Chaco Iconic Place plays a key role in programs at the international, country, sub-national or departmental level to affect public and/or corporate policy to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission and in support of the implementation of the initiatives deployed in the Gran Chaco region. They liaise and act as an informational contact between TNC and country, sub-national, local agencies, multilateral institutions, business and/or private groups. The Policy Specialist for The Nature Conservancy Gran Chaco Iconic Place provides research and policy analysis in support of TNC policy and/or corporate practice priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals. They build and facilitates internal networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. They provide services that assist in influencing the outcome of policy and/or corporate initiatives at the international, country, sub-national, and local levels. They develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.
The Policy Specialist reports to the Gran Chaco Lead and should be based in Argentina.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
The Policy Specialist will be responsible for policy research and strategic communications in support of the TNC Argentinian team, other teams globally and in the region, with a strong focus on regenerative agriculture, regenerative ranching, zero deforestation and conversion and sustainable food systems.
S/he will develop analysis, write policy briefs, and support proposals to promote and fund policies that foster the shared conservation priorities, initially in the Gran Chaco Iconic Place.
S/he will provide strategic and targeted research support for the Argentinian team and other teams in the region for campaigns and initiatives related to regenerative agriculture, regenerative ranching, sustainable food systems, and other topics needed.
S/he will involve appropriate partners in the field, in Argentina, in Paraguay, as well as staff in TNC’s Global, and Latin America Regional and country offices, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and concerns, and directing questions as appropriate.
S/he will represent the policy pathways and summarize the programs and outcomes of the Shared Conservation Agenda and of the IKI R2A-EbA Project and CMI/ZCC strategy for a diverse audience.
- In particular, this person will support the IKI Project: Ecosystem-Based Adaptation for Regenerative Ranching and Agriculture (IKI R2A-EbA), and the Conservation Market Initiative/Zero Conversion and Commodities Strategy (CMI/ZCC)._

- These are some of the responsibilities and scope of this position:
- Conduct policy research and write narratives and analytical documents as well as policy briefs and strategic communications in support of the IKI R2A-EbA Project (particularly the Output IV), R2A Strategy and ZCC Strategy.
- Support the revision of consultancy products within the IKI R2A-EbA Project, R2A Strategy and ZCC Strategy.
- Provide environmental and Agricultural considerations in international trade agreement negotiations and sub-national agreements
- Focal point between Argentinian Program and global staff to amplify and elevate perspectives from Argentina on cattle, soy and regenerative agriculture to take to international and multilateral policy forums and institutions.
- Participate in the European deforestation Policy group/primary point of contact for the Europe Policy Lead.
- Design and implement a strategy for political engagement in the regional, national and local levels in Argentina and Paraguay to promote the TNC’s priorities related to the scope of the IKI R2A-EbA Project, R2A Strategy and ZCC Strategy.
- Support the inclusion of policy in technical documents and proposals.
- Seek alignment with the regional and global policy teams and be able to request support from these teams when needed.
