**The Work You'll Do**:
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will provide comprehensive technical leadership for all technologies and systems within the systems engineering domain at Sovos. In this role, you will guide and support the team and department with technology decisions, long-term architectural design, system compliance solutions, and project implementation. You will actively contribute to collaborative efforts within and across teams and deliver technology presentations and business cases to governance and leadership boards.

You will ensure that system design and requirements align with business objectives, and team practices adhere to high-quality coding and engineering principles. Additionally, you will mentor colleagues on systems engineering best practices, develop plans for hardening system standards, and lead automation efforts for systems engineering deployments. This role exemplifies technical excellence, inclusiveness, teamwork, and a customer-focused approach. You will also provide leadership, technical direction, and oversight as your team delivers impactful technology solutions.
- More specifically, you will:_
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and manage server-related issues, ensuring platforms are optimized and incidents are resolved efficiently.
- Design, implement, and optimize system architectures, including UCS Blade Server virtualization, PowerMax storage, F5 load balancers, NSX virtual networking, Rubrik backup, and automation tools like Puppet, Python, and Terraform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architecture, product development, systems administration, and engineering) to deliver end-to-end technical solutions that meet business needs.
- Lead automation efforts and standardize deployments using best practices to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design diagrams, disaster recovery plans, and operational procedures.
- Use JIRA for task management, service fulfillment, and CAB updates while adhering to industry best practices for multi-tier solutions across sites and data centers.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and support to ensure adherence to systems engineering best practices and continuous improvement.

**What We Need From You**
- 10+ years in IT, server design, virtualization, and storage/backup solutions.
- Strong understanding of server, storage, and network management, including routing, firewalling, ACLs, and NSX virtual deployments.
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Puppet, Python, Terraform, and experience with JIRA.
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for complex enterprise architectures.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and mentorship abilities.
- Detail-oriented, highly responsible, and motivated team player.
- Capable of setting and managing priorities effectively.
