Key Responsibilities & Tasks The Principal Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of a complex project throughout its lifecycle, with qualifications and business acumen to manage large-scale, high-risk, strategic projects that span organizational boundaries including multiple business units and service partners/vendors. The Principal Project Manager leads the Bid Phase of the customer engagement, shaping the overall delivery approach, including methodology, governance, project structure, organization, scoping, estimation and risk assessment. The role provides leadership to the overall team delivering the project, with mentoring to junior project managers and support to senior Project Manager or Program Manager, and collaborates with Customer and/or Partner Project Management teams. The Key Areas of Responsibilities across the Project Life Cycle include: - Before Project kick-off (inception): - During the Sales cycle: - Contribute to the Project structuring and solutioning reviews, define the Project scope, schedule, resourcing and risk assessment. - Evaluate Customer culture and maturity to adapt the delivery approach and proposed Project structure; ensure appropriate methodologies are incorporated. - Help define project deliverables. - Align the project proposal with SAP DBS strategy (e.g., via accelerators and investments). - Contribute to Project Proposal Reviews conducted by the Customer and advocate the Project Delivery choices and plan. - From Sales closure to Project formal Kick-off: - Facilitate a comprehensive Sales-to-Delivery transition. - Build trustful relationships with Customer & Partner stakeholders. - Define Project team structure; interview candidates for key roles; review SoWs for 3rd parties and subcontractors; optimize nearshore/offshore delivery for cost advantages. - Ensure onboarding of team members; ensure team understands and owns their commitments. - Establish governance, logistics & infrastructure; set meetings cadence and escalation process. - Manage project kick-off meeting and define success criteria agreed with SAP and Customer at Executive Management and Team levels. - During Project Execution (Planning / Executing / Monitoring and Controlling): - Plan, monitor and control project activities including WBS, deliverables, dependencies, owners, due dates, and links to related plans. - Plan and manage resources and finances; provide a complete view of actuals and forecast to completion. - Manage scope against the original Statement of Work and change management records. - Manage RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) logs and conduct RAID review meetings. - Oversee deliverable reviews and approvals within contractual timelines; record minutes and approvals. - Develop key strategy documents (Data Migration, Test, Cut-over/Deployment) and align with customer expectations. - Collaborate with Project Sponsors and Project Review Boards to enable timely decisions. - Handle escalations and coordinate recovery activities; involve stakeholders as needed. - Governance & Reporting (internal): - Share project outcomes within DBS and ensure compliance with cadence and standards. - Interface with internal functions (PMO, Controlling, GRC, MCC) for visibility and transparency. - Governance & Reporting (Customer): - Prepare and submit project progress reports to the Customer as input to governance. - Build trusting relationships with Customer stakeholders (including Executive Sponsors) and other 3rd party stakeholders. - Ensure governance forums are operationalized and recorded as per governance model (Project Management and Steering Committee meetings). - Project team and Quality management: - Manage the Project Team (virtual and onsite) ensuring alignment on tools, methodology, and objectives; ensure team members are trained on responsibilities and deliverables. - Ensure subordinate Project Managers align on objectives and manage team members effectively. - Provide upward management to senior Project/Program Manager; communicate for overall delivery. - Provide coaching and performance feedback; support development plans. - Ensure quality plans and processes are in place with built-in quality principles and scheduled reviews. - Coordinate with SAP and Customer stakeholders to align with broader account plans and build trusted advisory relationships. - At Project Milestones and Project Closure: - Obtain timely Customer sign-off on contractual deliverables. - Capture lessons learned and share with stakeholders. - Ensure knowledge transfer to the next owner (AMS, Production Support, Run/Operational Teams). - Celebrate project success and communicate outcomes regionally. - At Month-End Closure: - Prepare accurate project snapshots for Month-End closing using regional tools (Felipe). - Analyze variances (Revenue, Cost, Margin, start-to-date, YTD). - Forecast Revenue and Cost to Complete (ETC, EAC). - Prepare and conduct monthly project reporting at MU level. - On a Continuous Basis: - Maintain awareness of the DBS strategy and promote adoption within the project; coach team members. - Maintain up-to-date records of project-related training and stay informed on PM best practices and SAP methodology. - Contribute to the DBS Project Management Community of Practice and develop best practices, templates, and SAP methodology. - Maintain understanding of SAP solutions and DBS business processes. Experience & Educational Requirements - Functional Experience: 3 - 5 years of project management experience in large-scale, high-risk, or strategic projects; 3 - 5 years of supervisory or coaching experience; experience leading cross-functional teams; experience managing issues, scope and quality within time and cost constraints. Management and Leadership Experience - Management of medium to large multi-layered teams; remote resource management; P&L experience desirable; strong leadership and people management skills; experience leading in a matrix organization. - English: Fluent; a second language is an advantage. Required undergraduate degree in commerce, engineering, information technologies or equivalent. Professional Training & Certification - PMP certification and/or other project management certifications (not mandatory). - SAP Activate certification or training (Mandatory); SAP Activate for Cloud certification (not mandatory). - Project Leadership Excellence (PLEX), Excellence in Delivery Management (EDM) or similar interpersonal skills course. - Understand SAP Solution Manager; Understand SAP Focused Build. - Project Management Tools (MS Project, Felipe, etc.). Mandatory. - One Service Enablement Courses (Not mandatory). - SAP S/4HANA Training Programs, including management of digital transformation projects.
