Job Summary:

The Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to a specific patient population under limited supervision. This role requires collaboration with medical staff and adherence to established nursing and medical standards.

  • Perform medical examinations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultations, and health education appropriate for the patient's age and situation.
  • Obtain patient histories and develop patient care charges, ensuring completeness and accuracy of documentation.
  • Order, obtain, and interpret diagnostic tests.

**Responsibilities and Tasks:

  1. Design, order, and document treatment plans/plans of care including medication prescriptions based on a comprehensive review of HPI and diagnostic results.
  2. Communicate plans of care with providers, including physicians, primary care providers, referring providers, nursing staff, and case managers.
  3. Provide patient and family instruction related to the plan of care, disease process, new treatment plans, and medication regimens.

Patient Safety: Ensure patient safety by taking action to correct observed risks, reporting adverse events and near misses, and identifying possible risks in processes and procedures.

This position requires a Master of Science degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program, current state licensure as a Registered Nurse, BLS certification, and DEA eligibility. Experience in gastroenterology is preferred but not required.

A high level of communication skill is necessary to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to maintain updated hospital safety training are essential.
