Job Overview
The Procurement Specialist at Wesco Distribution will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient placement and authorization of purchase orders within assigned limits. This individual will be responsible for expediting orders, tracking deliveries, resolving shipping errors, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with established guidelines.
Main Responsibilities
- Review daily purchasing reports and system recommendations to determine proper quantities and items to purchase, creating purchasing documents to send suppliers.
- Maintain inventory availability while minimizing working capital investment, executing tactical stock replenishment, special order buying, and drop ship buying as assigned.
- Guarantee accurate purchase order quantities, costs, notes, and terms compliance, ensuring electronic data interchange (EDI), automated stock replenishment (ASR/VMI), emailed, and faxed orders reach suppliers.
- Follow up with suppliers concerning order status and delivery, communicating delivery information to impacted departments.
- Review daily supplier shipping error notices and take appropriate action.
- Negotiate with suppliers to obtain return goods authorizations on excess and inactive material.
- Assist managers with evaluating supplier performance related to on-time delivery, fill rates, shipping errors, transfer cost improvements, branch support, and other measures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain or a related field is required.
- 1 year of experience in purchasing within a supply chain environment is required.
- Knowledge of purchasing and inventory concepts, practices, and procedures is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, negotiation skills, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and computer skills, including purchasing and inventory management systems, programs, and reports are necessary.
- Ability to exercise judgment and knowledge of the industry, including suppliers, customers, and competitors, are vital.
