Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to join our team at Mercedes-Benz Research, focusing on E-Drive and Connected Services. As a key member of our quality organization, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Understanding
    • Develop a deep understanding of Japanese customer needs and expectations through regular communication with product management and technical service.
    • Share market-specific concept demands with the QM Master Hub, considering local culture, customer expectations, and language.
    • Monitor market trends from a technology and societal perspective.
  • Vehicle Preparation and Handling
    • Set up and implement testing infrastructure and surrounding testing provided by the QM Master Hub.
    • Purchase and maintain mobile testing equipment and tooling in alignment with the QM Master Hub.
    • Import and register QM vehicles in cooperation with MB Japan and R&D Japan administration.
    • Coordinate HW and SW updates required for Q-Release vehicles with R&D Japan Workshop and Update Team.
    • Install logging equipment for documentation of findings during QM drives.
    • Reverse Q-vehicles to original configuration before handover to sales organization.
  • Testing and Validation
    • Participate in R&D release testing to familiarize with new features, functions, and SW generations.
    • Execute QM test drives with and without R&D participation, including stationary tests, single-day test drives, and multi-day test drives.
    • Document testing results via a web-based defect system (STARC) and prepare defect tickets with relevant log data.
    • Organize daily wrap-up meetings with involved parties and moderate the meeting.
    • Make decisions about defect VoCa priorities from a customer perspective.
    • Provide release recommendations to the QM Master Hub for each tested vehicle release.
    • Prepare a final test report including a management summary.
  • Project Management
    • Organize the QM testing schedule for multiple projects in parallel.
    • Route plan and maintain a reference testing catalogue for infotainment and connected car features.
    • Coordinate all parties involved in QM test drives (MB Japan, R&D Japan, QM Master Hub, and suppliers).
    • Closely cooperate with the QM Master Hub for alignment of all relevant activities for QM releases in Japan.
    • Act as the ambassador of the customers' voice in the local R&D team.
Requirements
  • Education/Languages
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, ideally in the automotive industry focusing on high voltage systems and/or connected digital features.
    • Solid Japanese cultural background and proficient Japanese language skills on the level of a native speaker.
    • Good English language skills.
    • German language skills as a plus.
  • Technical
    • Good technical understanding of EE vehicle architectures and high voltage systems in vehicles, including the battery and electrical drive train.
    • Ideal solid understanding of cloud-based application architecture.
    • Hands-on experience with vehicles.
  • Soft Skills/Personality
    • High enthusiasm for passenger cars, specifically for Mercedes-Benz models.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong customer orientation.
  • Experiences
    • 3+ years of experience in the automotive industry at an OEM or supplier.
    • Ideal experience in customer relationship management.
