About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Android Developer to join our US Experience team at Mercedes Benz R&D North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing applications for a range of Android devices, including mobile phones and wearables, as well as Android Automotive features embedded in the vehicle's infotainment system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design and build features for the Android app Mercedes me connect (USA)
  • Leadership: Lead Android feature implementation architecture/strategy and align them with stakeholders
  • Code Quality: Write well-structured, documented, tested, and maintainable code
  • Performance: Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with global teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Problem Solving: Proactive approach for root cause analysis of issues and their resolution
  • Quality Assurance: Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs identified by the QA team
  • Communication: Proactively collaborate with Product and UX Designer to understand acceptance criteria design requirements of new features and stories
  • Code Review: Accurate pointing of stories during SCRUM refinement sessions in order to complete stories in estimated time
  • Code Maintenance: Responsible to maintain code and pull request quality
  • Code Review: Ability to break down pull requests into small chunks to ensure smooth code review/merge
  • Code Approval: Review and approve pull requests of other developers
  • Publication: Ensure readiness for publication to Google and in-car app store
  • Team Contribution: Contributing to team KPI's and OKR's by focusing on the defined roadmap items
  • Competitor Analysis: Competitor benchmarking in order to make recommended enhancements
  • Mentorship: Mentoring of more junior developers and best practice sharing/documentation
  • Continuous Learning: Peer programming and shadowing sessions to foster continuous learning and improvement
  • Global Collaboration: Ability to work in a global environment with peers from Germany, India, and China
  • Cultural Diversity: Utilize diverse opinions and cultural backgrounds to improve our products
  • Travel: 25% of travel may be required for this position
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, consider: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field of study
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Android Development: Multiple years of native Android development experience
  • Design Patterns: Solid understanding of design patterns, coroutines, and Architecture Components
  • Coding Skills: Strong Kotlin coding skills
  • Dependency Injection: Dependency Injection (Koin or Dagger)
  • Jetpack Compose: Jetpack Compose
  • Mobile Architectures: Solid understanding of mobile architectures, such as MVI, MVVM, and Solid principles
  • Unit Testing: Hands-on experience writing unit tests
  • UI Design: Experience in creating custom, pixel-perfect UIs
  • CI/CD: Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms, such as Jenkins
  • Google Developer Guidelines: Solid understanding of Google Developer guidelines
  • Adaptability: Quick adaptation to Mercedes internal development model and coding guidelines/stylistics
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience in Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban
  • Time Management: Exceptional time management and ownership for assigned tasks and feature developments
  • Lean and Agile Mindset: Lean and agile mindset
  • Physical Demands: Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use and presentations
  • Physical Activity: Frequent sitting, standing, and reaching with hands
Preferred Qualifications
  • R&D Engineering Experience: R&D Engineering experience with focus on vehicles & Mercedes Benz products
  • Infotainment/Telematics/Connected Services: Working knowledge of Infotainment / Telematics / Connected services
  • Backend Development: Backend Development experience
  • Published Mobile Apps: Track record of published mobile apps

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $100,000 - $168,800.
