Model Review Analyst - Quantitative Modeling

**The Role**: Platts is seeking a Quantitative Analyst with excellent communication skills to conduct quantitative model reviews of the suite of quantitative models across the broad energy commodity spectrum. This position has the responsibility for the 3rd Pillar of the Platts Model Governance Framework which is to conduct an independent model review for conceptual soundness and completeness & accuracy of the code of the models under the Platts Analytics umbrella.

**The Impact**: Under “Conceptual Soundness” the analyst will examine: the documentation and methodological review; model assumptions, context, limitations and/or violations; modeling concepts and comparisons to alternative theories/paradigms; qualitative & expert judgement; and the choice of variables amongst other considerations. Under “Completeness & Accuracy of Code” the analyst will further look at: applicable standards such as the FAST standard for spreadsheets and other structured programming standards for programming codes such as Matlab or C++ for example; algorithmic implementation and replicability; formulae and any automated processes; User Acceptance Testing; code review; and model and algorithmic variations (e.g. the choice from a plethora of numerical techniques).

**The Career Opportunity**: This person would be placed on a challenging, steep learning curve in terms of not only becoming proficient in the range of modelling approaches but also in the energy commodity environments to which Platts Analytics is exposed - oil, power, natural gas, and the competing/complementary markets, such natural gas, liquids and petrochemicals.

**The Team / The Business**: While the role is independent of the various Platts Analytics modelling teams, you are nonetheless part of a cohesive global team.

**Your Skills**: Strong background in quantitative modeling and econometric techniques. Energy markets experience with technical programming language exposure (e.g. C++, VBA, MATLAB, R, Python, etc.)

**Responsibilities**:
Delivering model reviews as detailed under the impact section above.
Accessing and mastering the models described in the related documentation and teasing out what might be missing in an insightful manner.
Perform any additional research on the relevant economic and financial information specific to a commodity market and/or any statistical/econometric analysis therein.

**Qualifications**:

- BS in Physics, Mathematics, Quantitative Economics/Econometrics, Engineering, and/or related field of study. MS degree preferred. Equivalent experience within their discipline also considered but this experience will need to be precisely described;
- 0-2 years experience in the energy industry;
- Displays well-rounded communication skills that implement good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills. The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
- Displays excellent numeracy including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships; highly attuned to the advanced principles of econometrics
- Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to adjust priorities as required.
