The Role at a Glance
As the Director of Reinsurance, you will manage staff, help lead the onboarding of new strategic reinsurance transactions and administration of existing reinsurance. This position requires not only accounting expertise but also strategic knowledge of structuring reinsurance transactions and evaluating risk transfer on both a GAAP and Statutory basis. You will work with various business areas and key stakeholders to evaluate the structure of reinsurance transactions, identify accounting issues, propose resolutions, and communicate status to accounting stakeholders. Collaborate within the Chief Accounting Office to provide clarity on GAAP and STAT basis reporting of new and existing reinsurance transactions, overseeing onshore and offshore affiliate captive reinsurance. Support the monthly and quarterly close process and reinsurance GAAP and Statutory financial reporting requirements.
General Purpose of Job
This position will provide leadership and direction to ensure group results for assigned Reinsurance accounting areas. You will direct the preparation, recording, analysis, and reporting of complex Reinsurance accounting transactions and ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
What you'll be doing
- Evaluate reinsurance transactions, their structure, and financial accounting implications.
- Identify and recommend best practice opportunities to improve efficiencies as new reinsurance processes are established.
- Read reinsurance treaty agreements and apply concepts in the agreements to appropriate accounting and administrative approaches.
- Research and apply appropriate accounting guidance to complex reinsurance transactions.
- Understand, evaluate, and conclude on risk transfer as it applies to new transactions on both a GAAP and Statutory basis.
- Collaborate on proforma financial statements for new and/or amended reinsurance transactions.
- Review and analyze proforma financial statements to determine impacts of transactions to the enterprise.
- Explain financial statement impacts of reinsurance transactions to key stakeholders.
- Evaluate treaty administrative implications of reinsurance structures.
- Responsible for Reinsurance reporting on new and current reinsurance transactions.
- Support a timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial close process.
- Develop control processes to support internal operating and SOX controls.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Manage and evaluate individual/team performance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal/external auditors.
- Comply with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience in Reinsurance accounting, including 3+ years of managerial experience.
- CPA Certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, retain, develop, and coach staff.
- Strong relationship management skills with internal clients.
- Ability to influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
- Strong project management leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay Range: $90,300 - $164,700
Actual base pay could vary based on factors including work experience, education, location, and qualifications. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package.
