ETL & Cloud

This position co-manages the team's ETL pipelines, data engineering operations, and cloud infrastructure. This individual will be responsible for bringing data into our ecosystem from third party vendors in a reliable manner, designing ETL pipelines to clean and transform data, and building tools to help streamline those processes, all with sharp attention to detail around cloud resource consumption and data quality.

This position will report directly to the Head of US Data Strategy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Help design our data infrastructure and platform architecture to ensure our team has access to reliable, timely, and organized data assets
  • Manage and configure data ingestion through a variety of data transfer methods (S3, SFTP, API, Delta Share, etc.) from both external and internal sources
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines to pull data into our environment, perform initial quality checks and cleaning transformations, and make data available for downstream use
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and Sector Data Strategists on the team to gather requirements, gain domain expertise, and contribute to data cleaning steps
  • Oversee our data governance and cloud consumption, both compute and storage; find ways to optimize and reduce cost
  • Maintain thorough documentation for processes and pipelines
  • Develop relationships with external vendors and internal technology counterparts

Requirements:

  • Experience configuring data exchange and transfer methods
  • Experience orchestrating ETL pipelines with multiple tasks, triggers, and dependencies
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies or issues with data deliveries (e.g., schema shift, missing files, null presence, etc.); can translate expectations for data format and contents into programmatic checks
  • Strong proficiency with Python and Apache Spark; intermediate or better proficiency with SQL
  • Experience with AWS S3 and EC2
  • Experience with Databricks, Atlassian project management tools a plus
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and translate ideas with technical stakeholders in IT and Data Science
  • Passionate about designing data infrastructure and eager to contribute ideas to help our platform evolve
