GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Highmark seeks a highly motivated Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer/Lead Mainframe Platform Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our critical mainframe systems. This role requires deep expertise in z/OS, DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ, and related technologies, and will involve leading complex projects, troubleshooting critical issues, and mentoring junior engineers. The successful candidate will drive platform improvements, ensure high availability and performance, and champion best practices within a geographically dispersed data center environment. Experience with automation (IBM Systems Automation), diagnostic tools, and disaster recovery planning is essential. This position requires strong collaboration skills and a commitment to fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Leads teams in clearly defining, with the customer, the most complex requirements, deliverables, and timeframes. Escalates issues and makes recommendations to resolve them to the appropriate audience.
  2. Leads the most complex root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex problems impacting IT Infrastructure.
  3. Leads the development and/or delivery of the most complex technical training in technical areas. Mentors less experienced team members in the execution of their duties.
  4. Leads the completion of the most complex project tasks to enable the on-time, within budget and scope delivery of IT Infrastructure projects.
  5. Assures compliance to required standards, procedures, guidelines, and processes.
  6. Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Licenses/Certifications, and Experience

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Information Technology.

Preferred Experience:

  • Expert level z/OS Mainframe Systems Programming background, including SMPE, DB2, IMS, and CICS.
  • Experience working with vendors to resolve software and systems issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems quickly.
  • Skilled at communicating with all levels of management.
  • Able to work off-hours and weekends and scheduled, 24x7x365 on-call responsibilities.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply highly complex and technical concepts in a highly available environment.
  • 10 plus years' experience with IBM z/Series mainframe.

  • Project Management

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Does this role supervise/manage other employees? No.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Is Travel Required? No.

This job requires the ability to work as a team member. Additionally, this job requires the willingness and ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis and may require irregular work hours, holidays, and/or weekends.
